What makes us a great choice for education

The centre is set in 18 acres of woodland at the heart of Wordsworth country, our Ullswater outdoor education centre is based on the north shore of the lake. Participants can canoe or row on the lake, and enjoy a stay in our high mountain lodge as part of an expedition to climb Helvellyn - one of The Lake District's highest peaks.

We provide all the specialist kit, waterproofs and boots you'll need. If they get wet just pop them in our big drying room, and you'll be kept warm in the main building with our ground source heat pump heating.

Our kitchen team are passionate about providing the tastiest food they can, with lots of the ingredients coming from local suppliers. If you have any dietary requirements be sure to mention them on your personal information form before you come.

We use the power of learning in the wild. We take young people on authentic wild journeys showing them they can achieve more than they ever thought possible

Accreditation and Awards

The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom is the managing and overall awarding body for the LOtC Quality Badge, which recognises providers offering good quality LOtC and managing risk effectively. All of The Trust's centres which accommodate school parties have been awarded this standard of recognition.

The Trust is registered and holds current licences for all its centres with The Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA). Adventure activities licensing ensures that activity providers follow good safety management practices.

Seminar rooms, games room, shop, drying room, dining room, student lounge with TV, telephone and vending machines.

Groups of 12. With a maximum of 120 (10 groups)

Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions

visiting staff are free to take photos and videos. Some schools choose not to allow young people to have their phones and devices during our adventures

Pricing Information

Our prices are tailored so we recommend getting in touch so we can discuss you package. Additionally, over 80% of our education participants receive charitable funding.

As a charity, it's our mission to make our courses available to as many young people as possible. We can’t let money stand in the way.

Our charitable funding can only be used towards an Outward Bound course. Young beneficiaries need to be in the education system in the UK and meet at least two of the following criteria:

• Free school meals
• Low-income family
• English as a second language
• Ethnic minority backgrounds
• Special educational needs
• Poor educational attainment

Available Facilities

Canteen dining areas provides all meals and packed lunches when away from the centre. Community canoe centre, seminar rooms, games room, shop, drying room, dining room, student lounge with TV, telephone and vending machines.

Room Sizes and Facilities

Participants: Accommodates 120 people in bunk rooms of 4-10 people. Some rooms have en-suite bathrooms and others have toilets and showers adjacent to rooms.

Group Leaders: Separate accommodation in rooms of 2-4 people.
