What we offer on a school trip
Coventry Cathedral is well known internationally as a striking example of twentieth century church architecture and for its work of reconciliation, which attracts a wide range of visitors.
It attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors both from this country and abroad.
The Cathedral welcomes children and young people from all over the country on educational visits. The Cathedral Schools’ Team (made up of qualified teachers and children’s workers) are on hand to help your pupils learn from and about the Cathedral through different techniques and experiences.
What makes us a great choice for education
Our unusual story and buildings mean we have plenty to show pupils about history, mathematics, art, citizenship, PSHE and RE. The burned out medieval Church, Blitz Museum, the 3rd tallest tower in England, the 1960’s ‘modern’ building, a huge variety of artworks spanning the last 60 years and our work around the world of bringing hope and reconciliation in Iraq, Nigeria, Israel and Palestine are just some of the reasons you should bring your students to visit us.
Our close proximity to both The Herbert and Coventry Transport Museums mean that a whole day of interactive lively education can be provided with ease.
What is typically included on our school trips
If you have a whole day to spend with us then you should opt for our Tour and Workshop experience. Our team will guide you and your pupils around the Cathedral exploring a curriculum theme during the morning. There is a variety of different tours from which to choose. After lunch the team will provide a workshop based on the same or different curriculum area. These can be tailored for your specific needs.
EXAMPLES OF WORKSHOPS
History Workshop – A closer look at evacuation and rationing using Identity Cards and Rationing Books and a study of Henry Moore’s air-raid drawings.
RE Workshop – Respond in creative ways to the Cathedral and its message (creative writing , art work, dressing up and discussion).
Maths Workshop – Time to explore the Cathedral using a variety of mathematical skills; measuring, estimating and enjoying the two building.
Art Workshop – Choose from a number of art activities and practice your skills such as drawing and collage, in the dramatic space that is Coventry Cathedral!

You can also come and use our facilities without having a guided tour. We can provide all the educational resources you need for such a visit by booking our Resource Boxes. We have a range of boxes to suit your requirements.
Each box contains teacher information, pupil worksheets and at least one activity. The teacher information contains all you need to know on the buildings, its story and art. This will help you answer questions the children will ask as they look around.
The pupil worksheets will vary according to which topic you require.
On arrival at the Cathedral you will be able to pick up your resource box and use it for the full time you are at the Cathedral. Resources must be returned before you leave.

NON-GUIDED VISIT
If you do not wish to use any of our resources you are of course still welcome to visit the Cathedral with your pupils but must book in advance.
We also have a create Events Programme such as Pi week, Storytelling Week and Conference programme including STEM and GCSE support events – check out the website
Materials, Resources & Information Provided
We have teacher’s packs, worksheets and photo packs suitable for all ages. These were developed by the team and other qualified teachers and link to specific curriculum subjects and Key Stages. Download or purchase from out website School Resources - Coventry Cathedral
Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions
We are more than happy for children to take photos, video and recordings within the Cathedral – you just need to let us know in advance.
Risk Assessment Details
You can either call or visit the Cathedral and meet with a member of the team if you wish to discuss your needs further. We do also have information to help you complete your risk assessment forms which can be emailed.

- A full day visit £10 per pupil (including tour, workshop and all materials/resources)
- A half day visit £60 per group of 20 children
- All adults free
Clothing Requirements
There are no clothing requirements, but please remember that the Old Cathedral has no roof – so a waterproof jacket may come in handy.
Available Facilities
We have a pop up shop with ‘pocket money’ items for the children to purchase. Although gift bags of various prices can be organized for collection on the day.
Rooms can be booked for children to eat their packed lunch.

We have disabled access to most areas and fully accessible toilets – please call to talk through the detail.
Opening Hours & Information
The Cathedral is open every day. The Schools’ Team work mainly during term time – but other times can be arranged.
